Eastleigh manager Ben Strevens has spoken of the importance of the side sharing goals around for the remainder of the season and not just relying on the strikers at his disposal.
“We need goals from all areas, I spoke about that to the boys over the season. Paul McCallum has been great for us this season getting fourteen goals but the more goals we can share from all over the pitch, that’s midfielders and defenders, that’s the characteristics of a good team.” Strevens said ahead of the trip to Solihull Moors.
Reflecting on the first game of the new year at the Silverlake against Havant which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Spitfires. Strevens was pleased with the attacking intent of his rear guard and their willingness to attack the ball, which was rewarded with goals from Reda Johnson and a Josh Hare wonder strike.
“The spell before Reda scored, Alex Wynter had a header where the keeper saved it and could have scored. Boyce had a great header which hit the inside of the post and could have gone in but didn’t. Then Reda has powered in with a great header and Josh got the winner with a great strike. Out of the back five on the day four of them could have scored which is pleasing”
Strevs also reserved praise for the quality of balls coming into the box from Mark Yeates and how that will aid his defenders in scoring goals.
“I’ve always said and continue to say that if the ball is right from Yeatesey whether that is free kicks or corners, the power of the players we have got and the height and willingness to attack the ball, our defenders should score goals and I hope they do between now and they end of the season starting with Solihull on Saturday”
