It’s National Volunteers Week between 4th-10th of June, and all week Eastleigh Football Club has been promoting the good work done by all who give up their time to help out in all aspects of the setup.

For the fourth day of our series, our spotlight turns to those involved in the media side of the organisation – those who help boost the club’s image to the wider footballing community.

Students from Solent University along with club photographers Graham Scambler, Ken Dear, Tony Smith and Paul Paxford are at the forefront of this, allowing the club to be punch above its weight when it comes to media coverage. Peter Baldry, also of Solent Uni has been gracing the matchday microphone this season.

The football club has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Solent Uni for a number of years now, and last season saw a team of students assist the club’s media staff in filming games, providing match reports, travelling to away fixtures, and compiling social media content along with a selection of other roles. This has proven enormously popular with supporters, and the following of the club has continued to grow with the help of the budding sport journalists.

Graham, Ken, Tony and Paul provide the majority of photos seen on club publications, including the website, matchday programme and social media. Their hard work and dedication has seen a huge quantity of high quality Eastleigh photography produced in the last few seasons – and is often picked up by the National League for use on their website. Without their knack of being in the right place at the right time, the club’s output would be far less engaging!

A massive thank you goes out to all those that have contributed in these areas!

Volunteering is an absolutely vital part of Non-league football, and here at Eastleigh, we are keen to keep that community spirit high by encouraging more volunteers to get involved. If you would like to be a part of things at The Silverlake on a matchday in any capacity, please contact 02380 613361 and we will do all we can to find a role for you!
