PREVIEW | MAIDSTONE (A)

For the second consecutive week, Eastleigh hit the road – this Saturday the Spitfires make the 200-mile round-trip to Maidstone.

Andy Hessenthaler’s men will be looking to continue their fine run of form and extend their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches.

It also presents Eastleigh with the perfect opportunity to continue their good form away from the Silverlake – they’ve claimed maximum points in their last two away trips.

The Spitfires have an added boost ahead of Saturday’s fixture – the signing of Ryan Broom from Bristol Rovers on loan. The young Welshman goes straight into the matchday squad.

Ahead of the fixture, assistant manager Ben Strevens stated that the squad were in a good place going into the weekend.

“It’s been a really positive week – off the back of last weekend’s result, we are really looking forward to the game,” said Strevens.

“We know it’s going to be a hard game, they’re a decent side. They proved that when they came here (The Silverlake) earlier in the season, but we are confident at the moment.”

Meet the opposition:

The 2017/18 season marks Maidstone’s second in the top flight of non-league football, following their promotion through the playoffs.

It was a solid first season in the National League for The Stones, who finished a solid 14th position last term, one place above Eastleigh.

Under the guidance of Jay Saunders, they continue to look assured – they currently sit 13th in the league, one point above The Spitfires.

History Books:

In the four fixtures played, it’s honours even between Eastleigh and Maidstone with two victories apiece.

The Spitfires won the first two fixtures between the two, but have been unsuccessful in the two most recent fixtures.

When the two clubs met in early September, the two sides were separated by a Zavon Hines’ second-half goal – ending a five-game unbeaten run for The Spitfires.
